Question # 445: Dear Sir, if i travel everyday more than 90 Km to my jobsite, shall i pray there Qasr salah. thanks
bismi-llahi r-raḥmani r-raḥīm,
Assalamu ‘laikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh,
All praise and thanks are due to Allah (سبحانه و تعالى), and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger (صلى الله عليه و سلم).
First of all, we implore Allah (سبحانه و تعالى) to help us serve His cause and render our work for His sake.
Shorter Answer: If a person travels approximately 80-88 km (50-55 miles), that is considered to be the distance which dictates that prayers may be shortened according to the majority of scholars. Hence, it is permissible for you to shorten the prayers. Also Refer Question # 33: Minimum distance for Qasr prayer.
Long Answer: [The scholars differed in opinion regarding the distance in which the prayers could be shortened. The preponderant opinion is a distance of approximately 80-88 km (50-55 miles) one way (either going only or coming back only).]
It says in Fataawa al-Lajnah ad-Daa’imah: “The distance at which the concessions of travel come into effect is that which is customarily regarded as being travel; that distance is approximately 80 km. So, if a person travels this distance or more, then he may avail himself of the concessions of travel such as wiping over his khuffayn [(leather slippers or socks)] for three days and nights, shortening the prayers and putting them together [(Dhuhr with ‘Asr, and Maghrib with ‘Isha’)], and not fasting during Ramadan.” (Shaykh Muhammad Saalih al-Munajjid)
Allahu A’lam (Allah (سبحانه و تعالى) knows best) and all Perfections belong to Allah, and all mistakes belong to me alone. May Allah (سبحانه و تعالى) forgive me, Ameen.
